LILRC Announces Workshops with OCLC

This May, LILRC will be sponsoring two back-to-back sessions with OCLC:

Managing Local Holdings Records in OCLC Connexion

1:30-3:30p.m. Presentation

This session will offer guidelines for creating and updating Local Holdings Records (LHR) through OCLC Connexion. Topics include:

  • How to select the appropriate bibliographic record for the LHR.
  • How to create a basic LHR for a serial.
  • How to select a peer LHR from which to derive your library’s LHR.

The Local Holdings Offline Product is a report of a library’s current LHRs and the associated bibliographic records. How to order this report and interpret the data for LHR maintenance will be reviewed. Discussions will be interspersed throughout the program and participation is encouraged. Bring samples of your library’s LHRs and your questions. Also, there will be time for individual consultations after the program.  [More Information]

Search WorldCat on FirstSearch

OCLC’s FirstSearch service gives libraries and their users’ online access to many databases, including valuable OCLC databases such as WorldCat. This program will explore the indexes, limiters, shortcuts and other techniques available for searching WorldCat in FirstSearch.  A review of searching in LILCat, the LILRC database, and a look at the features of  WorldCat.org will be included.  Discussions will be interspersed throughout the program and participation is encouraged!
