On May 21, Nomi Naeem, Senior Librarian at the Brooklyn Public Library/Society, Sciences & Technology Division, presented the “Reinventing Library Services: MI Way” program to Long Island librarians at the Merrick Library.
Nomi shared with the participants his knowledge of Dr. Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences (MI) which can empower library staff to serve their community more effectively and efficiently.
He gave an introduction to this fascinating topic and discussed some of its diverse applications in library services. With the very engaged participants, he explored 9 types of intelligence (Verbal/Linguistic, Visual/Spatial, Mathematical/Logical, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Bodily/Kinesthetic, Naturalistic and Existential) and its indication that “9 kinds of intelligence would allow 9 ways to teach, to represent information, rather than one.” His presentation is mind-enhancing and thought-provoking.
Special thanks to all that attended, Nomi, and the Merrick Library for hosting this event.
