On Friday, August 6th attendees gathered on the beautiful Eastern Campus of Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) for a first-hand look at the Library’s mobile makerspace developed with funding from a SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grant. This pilot makerspace features a 3D Printer, Penn State’s One Button Studio and much more. Our guest speaker, Dana Antonucci-Durgan, Head Librarian at the Eastern Campus of Suffolk County Community College began the session with a quick look at what a makerspace is and the different types of spaces out there. In addition, she discussed the benefits and challenges of creating a mobile makerspace and demonstrated the technology currently available to the students, faculty and staff at SCCC. From the MakerBot to Raspberry Pi, this space provides users with numerous tools for exploration, experiential learning and more.
