Workshop #TBT: Brian Pichman Explores Interactive Library Design and Innovative Funding for Libraries

Today’s Workshop Throwback Thursday (#TBT) will highlight the back-to-back workshops presented by Brian Pichman, Director of Strategic Innovation at the Evolve Project last week.

In the session, Building Interactive Library Spaces, Brian shared a wealth of information and ideas on how to build a new fablab or hackerspace.  This included hands-on stations where participants could test out must have maker tech, including Sphero, 3Doodler, littleBits, and much more.  After learning how to build an interactive space, Brian also discussed how to build your staff, including ways to continually train and engage the staff so the environment will constantly evolve and grow.

In the session, Innovative Funding Alternatives, Brian explored the topic of crowdsourcing support (through sites such as Kickstarter or Indiegogo) for a program or project.  This session provided an introduction to the basics–from start to finish–about launching your new idea through a crowd-sourced campaign.  He also discussed various methods and strategies to find extra money and how to utilize a business perspective to have successful wins.
